Fort William Self-catering

Fort William is a very welcoming part of the highlands of Scotland for a holiday and is often called a huge outdoor playground, due to the range of outdoor activities and sports on offer. The mountains of Ben Nevis and the Glencoe area are areas of outstanding natural beauty. Nearby, the Road to the Isles, Ardnamurchan, and the Great Glen area offer an enormous amount of beautiful holiday cottages to rent. It is a very tranquil place for a holiday and a self-catering cottage allows you the freedom to explore the superb Highland scenery and culture. There is lots of clan history, Ben Nevis to walk up, lochs and rivers for fishing, thousands of unspoilt beaches and plenty of fresh air. The glens and lochs around Fort William are stunning and a self catering holiday in one of our luxury cottages will be a perfect tonic from the hustle and bustle of modern living. Many of the cottages have log fires to keep you cosy in winter months. If you want an idyllic cottage to rent for a short break or a weekend break then you will find a great selection here. You can also visit the Glenfinnan rail viaduct which was used by the Hogwarts Express in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets - very popular with children! Glenfinnan is on the shores of Loch Shiel and is a great vacation place where you have a good chance of spotting golden eagles. It is also reputed to be the last landing in Scotland of Bonnie Prince Charlie. Many cottages offer discounts for short breaks or weekends off season. There are also a range of bed and breakfasts and caravan and camping sites in the Fort William area.

Argyll

is a very beautiful part of Scotland in which to spend your vacation. It is famous for its spectacular castles, coast and beautiful gardens. The wonderful climate means that the gardens are full of exotic plants, often brought to Scotland by Victorian plantseekers. From your holiday cottage in Argyle you can visit a wealth of amazing gardens, including Arduaine (with its outstanding rhododendrons) and Tororay Castle with its Himalayan blue poppies. The range of cottages to rent in Argyll is immense.

The west coast of Scotland is one of the most romantic areas in Scotland and a perfect setting for a holiday cottage for Christmas or New Year, or any time of year. The lush landscape and beautiful, unspoilt beaches (perfect for a walk on Christmas morning!) offer a spectacular beauty. The views to the Scottish islands are mesmerising and the backdrop of high mountains add to the atmosphere. We often spend Christmas and New year on the west coast of Scotland and have stayed in quite of few of the holiday cottages listed here. We have rented a romantic holiday cottage near Oban for Christmas (before children!) and more recently a castle in Argyll for New Year with other families. All have been luxury holiday cottages and offered wonderful Christmas and New Year breaks on the west coast of Scotland.

Mull is also a fantastic place to rent a holiday cottage. Tobermory is the main town on Mull and is the setting for the BBC children's television programme Balamory - if you take your children to a Tobarmory holiday cottage then they will thank you forever! Renting a holiday cottage in Tobermoray will let your children look at all the familiar sites in Balamory and have happy times searching for the Balamory characters! Press a link to find self catering holiday cottages on Mull and holiday cottages in Balamory (or self-catering cottages in Tobermory). If you want to stay where Balamory is filmed then you have come to the right place. Balamory self catering is a great way to show your children the location of the CBeebies favourite. Mull, the real Balamory island, is a wonderful place for a holiday - whether you are interested in Balamory or not!

Iona is a very special place for a holiday - lying off the west coast of Mull it is the most special island on the west coast of Scotland. Iona is Scotland's most important Christian site and the burial ground of early Scottish kings. Iona Abbey and Nunnery, founded by St Columba, are an essential visit if you are renting a holiday cottage on Mull. Iona is a tiny island and cars are not allowed on it - you reach Iona by ferry from Fionnphort on Mull.

Wester Ross holiday cottages and self catering cottages in Sutherland are also available here. If you are looking to rent a holiday cottage in Caithness or near Dornoch or self catering cottages on the Black Isle then look at the lovely selection of luxury holiday cottages here. Holiday cottages on the Black Isle and self-catering vacation homes in Ross are some of the finest holiday homes in Scotland.

There is a wonderful National Tourist Route going up the Argyll coast from Tarbet on the banks of Loch Lomond, climbing up through beautiful countryside to 'rest and be thankful'. It then descends to Inveraray and along the shores of Loch Fyne to Lochgilphead. The route turns north, passing the Crinan Caanal and on to Oban. You can travel north to Ballachulish to the holiday town of Fort William. If you are on holiday in Argyll then this is a wonderful drive to follow, taking in some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland.
