Edinburgh is a great place to go with children as it offers a wide range for all different age groups. If you are lucky enough to visit in the winter then something that always goes down well with children is a trip to 'Winter Wonderland'. This is a small fairground which is located in the Princes Street Gardens, it also contains a German Market filled with lots of sweet treats for the children. However the most popular part of Winter Wonderland is the ice-rink which during December is always full of both children and adults enjoying themselves. The Ferris Wheel is also great fun, giving spectacular views over the city, however it is not for the faint hearted as the heights can sometimes frighten small children.

The Book Festival caters for all the family, there is a huge selection of authors meaning that there will always be one suitable for every family member.
A trip to Edinburgh zoo is always a successful family day out. The zoo boasts the biggest penguin pool in Europe, and every day there is a penguin parade and a talk by one of the zoo workers. The zoo also contains the only koala bears in the whole of the United Kingdom and they can be viewed in an exhibit themed around the animals native country, Australia. Children will be constantly entertained at the zoo, with talks and events taking place every hour, there is always something for them to see or do which means that parents can relax and enjoy a stress-free day! Make sure you pay a visit to the zoo shop which is full of wonderful souvenirs and gifts, although it may be hard to drag your children away from it!
Dynamic Earth is another place that is definitely worth a visit if you are in Edinburgh with children. It is not only entertaining for children but also educational, telling the story of how the earth was formed and how it will change in the years to come. It is all interactive, with many different rooms all with a particular theme and a story to tell. You can easily spend a whole day there wandering around the different exhibits and it also has a very nice cafe which serves both hot meals and light snacks.
The Royal Museum and the Museum of Scotland are both interesting and educational places to visit. They contain exhibits that are thousands of years old as well as more modern exhibits. Throughout the year many special events take place which are always fun for the children to take part in.
